In the final seconds, sheer ecstasy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola howling at the heavens and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the home bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with four decades of silverware for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a former coach at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and stepped up to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, headlined by Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
