Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

An important official stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
